8th Grade DLC Reflection

Chemical Dispersants
1. Why do people at BP think that using chemical dispersants is ok if it harms the animals more?

2. Are there any other ways to clean up the oil without harming the animals and vegetation?

3. Are there any natural dispersants that we could use to clean up, or break down the oil?

  1. Response to question #2:

No, I do not think there is any way to clean up the oil without harming the sea life. No matter how hard people try to clean up there is always going to be damage done by the oil.

  2. In response to your first question, I don't think that BP cares that using chemical dispersants is ok. They just don't want to spend the extra money to find another way to safely clean the ocean of the harmful oil. I think that the company cares more about the success they have in the business world rather than the environment. If they did want to help the environment, I don't believe they would be putting more harmful chemicals into the already dangerous ocean.
